Whisky Magazine reported on Saturday that Teeling Irish Whiskey unveiled a 40-year-old Single Malt as the crown jewel of the brand’s Vintage Reserve Collection. The whiskey hosts a suggested retail price of €15,000 ($16,294).
“We are extremely proud and lucky to be custodians of some of the oldest Irish single malt, which we have been mindfully releasing through our Vintage Reserve Collection,” Teeling Whiskey Company founder Jack Teeling said. “We are honored to unveil the pinnacle of this collection with our new “modern classic” the Teeling 40 Year Old Single Malt, one of the oldest Irish single malts ever bottled and a rare piece of Irish whiskey history, 40 years in the making.”
The four-decade-old whiskey was distilled in 1983 and bottled at cask strength — 42.2% ABV. The whiskey was aged in an ex-bourbon barrel, and just 140 decanters are available. Each decanter has rolled gold detailing and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The mashbill for Teeling’s 40-Year-Old Single Malt is composed of 100% malted barley, and a portion of the sales from this whiskey will go to mentorship programs through Teeling’s Phoenix Rising Scholarship at the Technological University of Dublin.
The whiskey will roll out in tiers and be available at global select retailers. Those interested in visiting the Teeling distillery in person can purchase a bottle at Teeling’s Bang Bang Bar.
In 2021, Teeling released 4,000 bottles of 30-year-old Irish whiskey as part of its Vintage Reserve Collection. The 46% ABV whiskey hosted a suggested retail price of a significantly “more accessible” price of $2,199.99.
In April, the Irish Times reported that Bacardi now owns 79% of the shares of Teeling Irish Whiskey and has an option to snap up the remaining shares for the price of $31.9 million.
