Martial artist and actor Jean-Claude Van Damme is entering the world of Irish whiskey with his new brand, Old Oak Whiskey, Wales Online reported Wednesday. The action star is a co-owner of the brand, which is based in Derry County.

Van Damme discovered Old Oak in its infancy, before the brand had launched, and was brought on as a partner.

According to Old Oak, Van Damme discovered the whiskey brand through word of mouth. He was interested in entering the whiskey business but wasn’t sure which brand to partner with, according to Wales Online.

“I was looking for my own brand of whiskey, possibly an American bourbon, and then one of my close friends and business associates asked, ‘Why an American whiskey when you can go back to the roots of whiskey and find an Irish whiskey?'”

The action star, known for roles in “Double Impact,” “Kill ‘Em All” and the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise, claimed he was introduced by a friend to Old Oak.

Van Damme immediately found himself drawn to the brand and said he loved its smoothness compared to “the more heavier whiskies [he] had tasted from different parts around the world.”

One of the brand’s co-founders, Kevin Carson, expressed excitement for the partnership.

“We are proud to partner with world-renowned actor Jean-Claude Van Damme whose interest in premium whiskey led him to discover Old Oak,” Carson expressed according to Wales Online. “Jean Claude embodies the very essence of unwavering strength, exceptional character and unparalleled precision. His relentless pursuit of perfection and attention to detail make him the quintessential representation of our brand.”

The brand offers two expressions, a 3-year-old Irish whiskey with a suggested retail price of $40 and a Jamaican rum reserve Irish whiskey with a suggested retail price of $50.
