The Irishman 22 Year Old Limited Release ‘Takes Brand to New Ground’ As Its Oldest Whiskey Yet

The Irishman 22 Year Old was announced Friday in an extremely limited release via Walsh Whiskey and its parent company, Amber Beverage Group, according to a news release. This is the oldest whiskey to date from The Irishman portfolio, and it will only be available at The Loop in Dublin and Cork Airports.
The expression was distilled in 2001 and aged in American oak bourbon barrels for 21 years, prior to spending one year in tawny port barrels from the Douro Valley. The expression was bottled at cask strength with an ABV of 49.43% and is non-chill-filtered. The Irishman 22 Year Old is housed in a leather case and hosts a suggested retail price of $550. Only 600 bottles are available, and 600 more are set to sell in 2024.
The Irishman 22 Year Old is a unique expression in the portfolio, in that it is the first to be double-distilled.
This distillation style deviates from Irish whiskey’s more typical triple-distillation process, according to Distiller. Some will argue that triple distillation creates a “smoother” whiskey, but Walsh Whiskey sought out the older style to pay homage to the past, according to the brand.
“I am delighted to have been able to source and finish this rare whiskey to my own taste. It takes The Irishman portfolio, which is dedicated to being single malt-led, to new ground,” Walsh Whiskey Managing Director Bernard Walsh said in a news release from the brand.
In February 2022, The Irishman underwent an extensive rebrand that cost about $571,985. The brand overhaul consisted of a new bottle design, brand redesign, packaging production and new marketing initiatives with the aim of doubling sales across 50 markets within a five-year period.
