On Thursday, Dunkalk Democrat reported that the Pernod Ricard-owned company, Irish Distillers, donated expressions to a rare whiskey auction in support of individuals impacted by flooding in the United Kingdom in Storm Babet’s aftermath.

Irish Distillers donated a bottle of Midleton Very Rare 1988, Midleton Very Rare 1989 and Midleton Very Rare 2009, plus 50 bottles of March 2021 Redbreast 10 Year Old.

The auction is scheduled to start on Nov. 1 and run through Nov. 5.

“We are honored to host such an important auction to help raise much-needed funds for the families, residents and businesses affected by recent flooding caused by Storm Babet in Midleton,” Irish Whiskey Auctions founders Anthony and Katie Sheehy said, according to the Dunkalk Democrat.

All funds from the auction will be donated to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, which will distribute them to individuals affected by the floods.

On Oct. 15, Storm Babet was formed, and the extratropical cyclone caused significant flooding in both Ireland and Scotland. As of Oct. 24, Babet was responsible for seven casualties in the United Kingdom, according to BBC.

On Oct. 23, Midleton Distillery was forced to shutter its visitor center doors due to the storm’s destruction.

“Our teams have seen first-hand the devastating impact of the recent flooding and we stand together with our colleagues, friends and fellow businesses in Midleton,” Irish Distillers CEO and Chairman Nodjame Fouad said, according to Dundkalk Democrat. “While our distillery was unaffected by the floods, our newly redeveloped Midleton Distillery Experience was significantly damaged and is currently closed.”

The Midleton Distillery Experience recently reopened after an extensive and costly renovation, making the damage particularly devastating.

Yet, the team behind brands like Jameson and Redbreast remains optimistic about the future, despite present circumstances.

Fouad expressed admiration for the people of Midleton’s resilience in the face of adversity, and claimed those at Irish Distillers will show the same fortitude while helping those around them.

“As a business, we will continue to do what we can to support the community rebuild,” Fouad said.
