Doritos Just Dropped Nacho Cheese-Flavored Booze, and We Have So Many Questions

On Tuesday, Empirical and Doritos announced the launch of a nacho cheese-flavored spirit, so you too can enjoy the delicious taste of nacho cheese in liquid form. Because whenever we want to get our buzz on, the first thing we think is, “God, I just wish this Old Fashioned tasted like Nacho Cheese Doritos right now.”
From Arby’s Bourbon to KFC’s 11 Herbed and Spiced Rum to crab-infused whiskey to trout brandy, we thought we’d seen it all.
Those who want to pre-order the “multi-sensorial, delicious beverage experience that smells and tastes just like the real thing” can do so here.
“Doritos is all about disrupting culture and bringing our fans unexpected, bold experiences,” Frito-Lay North America Senior Vice President of Marketing Tina Mahal said in a news release. “We’re always pushing our fans to try new things, so we figure it’s time we disrupt the spirits category by offering our iconic nacho cheese flavor in a bottle.”
Doritos says it wants to bring “Nacho Cheese flavor to new and unexpected territories.” We can definitely agree this libation is unexpected, to say the least.
According to the brands, the spirit’s flavor is extracted from real Doritos Nacho Cheese Chips. The “essence” of the chips was obtained through a vacuum distillation process. Vacuum distillation operates at lower temperatures, and the brands claim it preserves the “full spectrum of flavors” from the Doritos.
The brands suggest enjoying this Nacho Cheese spirit, which contains 42% ABV, in Margaritas, Bloody Marys, Old Fashioneds or served neat or over ice.
“Empirical is an ‘uncategorized’ spirits company, so it allows us the freedom to experiment with really interesting flavors and not have to be stuck in a gin box or tequila box or whiskey box,” Empirical CEO, distiller and chef Lars Williams said in the news release. “And we can take something that has a unique and amazing flavor, like Doritos, and evolve it into something completely new.”
We’re unclear on what the demographic for this bevvy would be, but maybe Guy Fieri would vibe, as this boozy, nacho cheese-flavored drink seems like a trip to Flavortown in liquid form.
Each 750-milliliter bottle of the Doritos spirit hosts a suggested retail price of $65.
