Crown Royal, the Canadian whisky brand with a popular line of flavored whiskies, announced on Thursday that it’s launching a new flavor, Crown Royal Chocolate Flavored Whisky. Bottles are set to arrive on shelves nationwide on Sept. 1 for a limited time. The 70-proof flavored whisky has a suggested retail price of $26.99.

The release combines Crown Royal whiskies with chocolate flavor, and the brand says tasting notes include aromas of vanilla, chocolate and oak; a palate of caramel and toffee notes; and a finish of dark cacao alongside Crown Royal’s “unmistakeable smoothness.”

The brand suggests pairing the whisky with mixers including grapefruit juice, cola and lemonade — which it says make for “surprisingly delicious combinations.” It can also be used as a twist on classics such as an Old Fashioned, Espresso Martini or Coquito.

“Crown Royal has always led the way in whisky innovation and with this new flavor we’re inviting people to indulge in something truly unexpected,” Crown Royal Vice President Hadley Schafer said in a news release. “This new expression maintains the quality of whisky we take pride in, while leaning into the bold yet inviting spirit that defines our flavored whiskies portfolio.”

The chocolate-flavored release joins the Crown Royal flavored whisky lineup, which includes Apple, Peach, Vanilla and Blackberry. The company said the new product is designed to appeal to both longtime fans and new drinkers exploring flavored whisky.

Crown Royal, owned by global drinks company Diageo, is Canada’s best-selling whisky brand and one of the most recognized in the flavored whisky category.
