Campari — king of the Negroni, Boulevardier and more — is expanding its repertoire with a trio of limited-edition bottlings rested in spirit casks.

Aptly named “Campari Cask Tales,” the brand has recruited barrels from Wild Turkey Bourbon, Appleton Estate Rum and Espolon Tequila to imbue finishes on its iconic Italian aperitivo. The release was unveiled at the brand’s Hollywood Hub during the SAG Awards on Wednesday evening. Tasting notes can be found below:

  • Rum Finish: Subtle hints of tropical notes, orange peel, herbal fragrances and gentle vanilla.
  • Bourbon Finish: Highlights of caramel, sweet baked fruit, smooth vanilla and a hint of oaky smokiness.
  • Tequila Finish: Robust herbal notes, peppery flavors, with a hint of citrus.

Campari released its first iteration of Cask Tales back in 2018, at the time, only a bourbon-finished version. Made in collaboration with acclaimed bartenders Leo Robitschek, Gaz Regan and Jeffrey Morgenthaler, the original hit liquor store shelves at $69.99 per 1L bottle.

Exact prices and release dates for the new trio have yet to be announced.

Invented in 1860, Campari is distilled from a proprietary blend of bitter herbs and aromatic plants thought to include chinotto, cascarilla and rhubarb. The original recipe derived its trademark bright-red tint from the addition of crushed cochineal insects. These days, a splash of food coloring.

Over the centuries, Campari Group has grown into an international spirits giant, heading up brands like SKYY Vodka, Aperol, Cabo Wabo Tequila, Grand Marnier and more.
