On Wednesday, Woodford Reserve announced a partnership with the Los Angeles chocolatier Compartés just in time for Valentine’s Day. The release is a limited-edition set of four chocolates made to pair with Woodford’s Double Oaked Bourbon.
Jonathan Grahm, the chocolatier behind Compartés, joined forces with Woodford’s Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall to create the chocolates and ensure they paired perfectly with the bourbon.
“Jonathan Grahm is a true genius and artist,” McCall said in a news release. “The tasting notes of wood, spice and florals found in the chocolates align perfectly with the flavors found in Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.”
The set includes a 750-milliliter bottle of Woodford Reserve with a four-piece box of chocolates. The Woodford Reserve Limited-Edition Chocolate Collection is available for $87.74 from ReserveBar, the Woodford Reserve Distillery and at retailers across the U.S.
“The flavors in bourbon are so complimentary [sic] to the flavors in chocolate, so partnering with Woodford Reserve was a perfect match,” Graham said. “I don’t think there’s another bourbon and chocolate pairing that is truly as perfect and in sync as Double Oaked and the chocolate truffles we’ve created.”
Compartés x Woodford Reserve Chocolates Tasting Notes, Via the Brands
Butterscotch
This chocolate complements the sweet and aromatic flavors of Double Oaked, bringing out the roasted coffee and butterscotch flavor. The brand claims it tastes like chocolate-covered espresso beans.
Pear Nutmeg
This chocolate emphasizes the fruitier characteristics of Double Oaked, in addition to its floral and spice components. The expression amplifies the sharp cedar, pepper spice and dark raisin qualities of the bourbon.
Oak Smoked Salt Caramel
The smoked salt-imbued caramel makes a mouthwatering pairing with Woodford’s Double Oaked, and concludes with herbal tea, tobacco and dry cocoa.
Maple Pecan
This whiskey complements Double Oaked’s grainy, woody sweet aromatic notes. With chocolate, brown sugar and maple, this pairing amplifies the walnut flavors of the bourbon.
