On Thursday, Willett Distillery announced the release of Willett Family Estate Small Batch Bourbon, a new cask-strength expression crafted by fifth-generation master distiller Drew Kulsveen. The small batch whiskey joins the distillery’s Family Estate lineup, known for its limited releases and distinctive mashbills.

The new bourbon is a blend of two recipes — one made from 72% corn, 13% rye and 15% barley, and another from 52% corn, 38% rye and 10% barley. Each batch consists of roughly 50 barrels, selected and mingled to balance flavor and complexity. The whiskey enters the barrel at 125 proof and is bottled at cask strength, meaning the final proof will vary by batch.

According to the distillery, this approach highlights the differences among barrels and batches, giving each bottling a unique flavor profile. The new release follows the success of Willett’s Family Estate Single Barrel line and complements the Small Batch Rye, which has become a staple for the brand.

“Willett Family Estate Small Batch Bourbon represents the next step in our family’s journey,” Kulsveen said in a news release. “From our family’s Thanksgiving table to yours, our values of gratitude, grit, and hospitality are intentionally poured into every barrel and every single bottle we put on the table. It’s important to celebrate those we hold most dear over a shared pour, while remembering our most favorite stories about those who aren’t at the table.”

The bourbon will be released in limited quantities nationwide.

Founded in 1936 in Bardstown, Kentucky, Willett remains an independent, family-owned distillery. Its operation spans generations, from Even and Martha Kulsveen — whose leadership shaped the brand’s modern era — to their son, Drew, who now oversees production.
