WhistlePig announced on Wednesday the new release of its Snout-to-Tail Bourbon – Aged 10 Years. The “disruptive” bourbon spent time in custom finishing barrels with distinctive heads.
The brand, known for its rye whiskeys, shared that the different heads consisted of a Vermont oak with a medium toast at the “snout” end and a Vermont oak smoked maple wood toast at “the tail” end.
WhistlePig Snout-to-Tail Bourbon has a suggested retail price of $89.99 for each 750 ml bottle and the brand shares it will be available at shops, bars and restaurants across the United States.
“After years of pushing the boundaries of Rye whiskey, we have a point of view on age and experimental finishing that brings something new to bourbon,” WhistlePig Head Blender Meghan Ireland said in a statement. “The equal and opposite of our flagship 10-year rye, Snout-to-Tail Bourbon takes toasted barrel aging to ten with bold flavors and new complexity earned before and after the barrel flip. With honey, brown sugar and toasted cashew on the ‘snout,’ roasted almonds and baked cornbread on the sip, and a fresh crust and cedar ‘tail,’ it’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey born to crash the party in Kentucky.”
According to the brand’s website, the whiskey is bottled at a modest 88 proof. The double-barrel-head aging process is touted as its claim to fame, and WhistlePig shares this process results in “a Bourbon that’s as smooth as it is audacious — big, bold and uncompromising.”
The bourbon is distilled at an undisclosed Kentucky distillery and bottled at the brand’s facilities in Mineville, New York.
To commemorate this release, WhistlePig shared it will be heading right into Louisville, Kentucky, with the opening of a permanent location: The WhistlePig PiggyBank, housed in Bank Shot Billiards, which is in a historic bank.
The brand’s home will offer tastings, a big pig bar and “other ham hijinx.” The crown jewel of the space will be the brand’s transformation of the century bank Vault, where WhistlePig will showcase some of its rarest offerings. The new location will be a permanent space for fans of the Vermont distillery to get a taste of this innovative whiskey brand in the ancestral home of America’s native spirit.
WhistlePig’s latest release signifies that Dry January is officially over — and many of us can breathe a sigh of relief.
The brand released a nonalcoholic Old Fashioned in honor of the monthly challenge, and it was a collaboration with the legendary rock icon, Alice Cooper. It was named “Sex, Drugs, Rock & Dry Old Fashioned,” and WhistlePig claimed the booze-free release “melts in your mind, not your glass.”
