Old Forester Launches Surprise Release of ‘Most Coveted and Rarest’ President’s Choice Bourbon as Father’s Day Draws Near

Old Forester announced on Wednesday a surprise drop of President’s Choice, which the brand refers to as its most “coveted and rarest expression.” The bottle hosts a retail price of $225, and it’s dropping with Father’s Day just around the corner.
The bourbon originated in 1964, when Brown-Forman President George Garvin Brown II began to provide customers with the opportunity to pick up single barrels from Old Forester.
“President’s Choice is our most sought-after product — and most people never get the chance to buy a bottle,” Old Forester Master Taster Melissa Rift said in a statement. “We’re excited to announce this special President’s Choice release just in time for Father’s Day.”
This release was drawn from single barrels, with what the brand refers to as “unique flavor profiles.” The barrels spend 7-12 years aging, and President’s Choice typically hosts a proof from anywhere within 105 to 120.
The Brown-Forman-owned bourbon brand with a history dating back to 1870 shared on its website that it only releases President’s Choice when the barrels offer “truly exceptional character.”
The brand released President’s Choice in 2021, and buyers needed to drive to the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, to pick it up. This year, the brand will be selling it online and shipping it to states where it is legal to do so.
In February, Old Forester appointed Caleb Trigo as assistant master distiller. Trigo has been working with Old Forester Master Distiller Emeritus Chris Morris to assist with distillery operations, quality control, brand awareness and many other responsibilities. The Louisville local said he was “honored” and “humbled” after being offered the new position.
As far as releases are concerned, Old Forester started 2024 off with a bang and added Old Forester 1924 to its Whiskey Row series. Old Forester 1924 has the highest age statement in the brand’s series and made the list of the “11 Best Whiskeys We Tasted in January 2024, Ranked.”
