‘The Perfect Tribute to Two Rich and Bold American Brands’: Old Forester Acquires a Taste for Texas With 2nd Edition of King Ranch Bourbon

Old Forester

Old Forester announced the second annual launch of its limited-edition King Ranch release on Monday. The whiskey is available exclusively in Texas and has a suggested retail price of $90. The expression is part of a partnership with Texas-based King Ranch, which has a long history that dates back to 1853 and is the largest ranch in the U.S.

“We are proud of the continued partnership with Brown-Forman and the second offering of this product,” King Ranch CEO Robert Hodgen said in a news release. “Texans have found the whiskey a rare and special treat and have been anxiously anticipating this release after the first batch won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.”

The bourbon celebrates the legacy of both brands, which have over 300 years of history combined, and was bottled at 105 proof from a proprietary batch of Old Forester bourbon that was aged in heavily charred barrels. After the bourbon was aged, it was finished through King Ranch mesquite charcoal. The charcoal was made from mesquite trees that grew on the property.

“The bourbon is rich and bold in taste — the perfect tribute to two rich and bold American brands,” Old Forester Master Taster Melissa Rift said in the news release.

Old Forester released the inaugural King Ranch expression in November 2022. Rift claimed in the release the initial reception for 2022’s release was warm and that the first batch “sold out very quickly.”

The 2022 King Ranch release implemented mesquite filtration as well, and we reviewed it here.
