On Thursday, Old Forester announced the appointment of Caleb Trigo as the brand’s assistant master distiller. Trigo will work closely with Old Forester Master Distiller  Emeritus Chris Morris and overseeing quality control, distillery operations, technical supervision and spreading brand awareness.

“I am both honored and humbled to step into the role of assistant master distiller safeguarding and bolstering the founding brand of our company,” Trigo said in a news release. “Making the best bourbon takes passion, time and careful attention to quality. I am honored to study under the leadership of Chris Morris, one of the most admired Master Distillers in the world.”

Trigo has been with Brown-Forman since 2009. He worked as an operations leader at Old Forester Distillery in downtown Louisville’s Whiskey Row. He received a master’s in distilling from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, and a chemical engineering degree from the University of Louisville. He started working at Brown-Forman as a process engineering co-op for the brand’s Research and Development team.

The Louisville local lives with his husband, Anthony, and is described by the brand as a “traveler” and “foodie.”

2024 appears to be off to a fantastic start for the Old Forester brand. On Jan. 17, Old Forester unveiled an exciting new addition to its Whiskey Row Series: Old Forester 1924. The whiskey is a liquid nod to a brief period within the distillery’s history when it operated under the iron grip of Prohibition.

At 10 yers old, Old Forester 1924 hosts the highest age statement within the Whiskey Row Series and a brand new mashbill. The choice to use a different mashbill was a testament to a time when the bourbon brand would use barrels from other distilleries whose doors were shuttered during The Noble Experiment. Old Forester 1924 was featured in our recent list, “11 Best Whiskeys We Tasted in January 2024, Ranked.” To see where it stacked up against the other top whiskeys of the month, click here.
