‘We Don’t Do Anything Halfway’: Metallica Collaborates With Angel’s Envy Co-Founder on Latest Blackened Whiskey Release
Blackened Whiskey, the brand from iconic rock band Metallica, announced last week that it will release yet another whiskey this year.
Less than six months after the release of Rye the Lightning, the brand’s first rye whiskey, it is releasing a new blend. This will be a 6-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey that is finished in white port wine casks and bottled at cask strength.
The bourbon was created in collaboration with Rob Dietrich, Master Distiller & Blender of Blackened, and co-founder of Angel’s Envy, Wes Henderson. This is the second release in the Masters of Whiskey Series, and Dietrich took to Instagram to announce the collab and new whiskey.

“We don’t do anything halfway,” Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett said, according to Ultimate Metallica. “That’s the really cool thing about the Masters of Whiskey series—we build on our core idea of collaboration, getting to work with these insane Master Distillers and Blenders to innovate and bring new expressions to our fans and whiskey drinkers.”
Proceeds from the release will be used to aid Team Rubicon in the rebuilding of the tornado-ravaged areas in Kentucky.
We don’t yet know which Metallica playlist the new bourbon aged to for the “proprietary black noise sonic” aging process Blackened uses. However, with the bourbon becoming available for purchase sometime this fall, we’ll be listening to it soon enough.
