Lux Row Distillers Unveils 110-Proof Wheated Bourbon With a Recipe That Dates Back to 1849

Lux Row

On Tuesday, Lux Row Distillers unveiled Rebel Small Batch Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, a 110-proof, small-batch, wheated bourbon with a recipe that dates back to 1849. The whiskey hosts a suggested retail price of $34.99 per 750-milliliter bottle and is available in limited quantities starting later this month, according to the brand.

Rebel Small Batch Reserve uses Lux Row’s four-year-old wheated mashbill, and it was drawn from barrels that were chosen by Lux Row’s Master Distiller John Rempe and blended in small batches.

“It’s always a pleasure to set aside notable barrels to release in small batches, as it provides fans of our bourbons the opportunity to enjoy the brands they love in a unique way,” Lux Row Distillers Master Distiller John Rempe said in a news release. “Rebel Small Batch Reserve is an example of taking that same time-honored wheated recipe created in 1849 and presenting it in a small-batch format and at 110 proof. The result is an exceptionally bold, yet dependably smooth, take on Rebel that consumers are certain to love.”

The choice to bottle this bourbon at 110 proof was deliberate, according to the brand, as the Lux Row team wanted a “more intense flavor.”

In July, Lux Row attempted to reach bourbon fans across the spectrum with a combination of a wheated and high-rye bourbon. The brand touted this expression, named The Double Single Barrel Bourbon, as providing bourbon enthusiasts “the best of both worlds.”
