On Wednesday, the musician JJ Grey announced that he teamed up with the Florida-based St. Augustine Distillery and unveiled a new bourbon brand called Rolling Rooster. The whiskey is set to debut at the end of May and can be pre-ordered here for $99.99.

The brand claims the bourbon was inspired by JJ Grey and Mofro’s latest album “Oulstee,” in addition to the musician’s deep love of the South.

“No matter how far I travel, it always brings me back home,” Grey explained, referring to Rolling Rooster Bourbon.

JJ Grey’s Rolling Rooster Bourbon is a blend of 3-to-5-year-old  bourbon distilled by St. Augustine. The expression bears a mashbill of 60% corn, 22% malted barley and 18% wheat and is bottled at 102 proof.

St. Augustine Distillery operates out of a restored FPL Ice Plant which dates back to 1917, according to the brand. The sustainably-focused spirits brand produces bourbons, rums, gins and vodka.

“When I was asked if we could create a bourbon with JJ Grey, I was over the moon,” St. Augustine’s VP of Production Richard deMontmollin said in a statement. “JJ brought the soul, we brought the juice, and it’s all in perfect harmony.”

The brand describes the bourbon as possessing a “symphony of flavors,” which include roasted marshmallows, toasted cocoa, oak and silver queen corn.

The “Brighter Days” singer describes the bourbon as “Warm and fuzzy at the top, with a tiny hint of cocoa before it spreads wide across the palate.”

JJ Grey’s album, “Blackwater,” rose the soulful Southern singer’s star into the stratosphere within the genre in 2001. According to the singer’s website, his songs often have themes of redemption, rebirth and peace.

JJ Grey and Mofro have played at multiple festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits to name a few. The artist has performed with the legendary guitarists Jeff Beck and B.B. King in addition to The Allman Brothers and The Black Crowes.

In January, fellow musician Chris Stapleton unveiled a release with Buffalo Trace Distillery in what might be 2024’s splashiest musical bourbon collaboration yet. The bourbon dominated headlines and was the result of an organic partnership between the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer and the bourbon brand.
