On Tuesday, Jeptha Creed Distillery unveiled a 6-year-old wheated bourbon made from a mashbill of an heirloom varietal called bloody butcher corn. The corn takes its name from its striking crimson kernels, which Jeptha Creed has made its hallmark.

“We like to say that we’ve gone about creating our bourbon the most difficult way possible,” Jeptha Creed Master Distiller and CEO Joyce Nethery said in a statement. “We are beyond thrilled the day has come to release our 6-year-old bourbon. This milestone makes us even more excited to see the beautiful flavor our Bloody Butcher Corn will continue to lend our aging bourbon for years to come.”

Jeptha Creed is helmed by a mother-and-daughter team, Joyce and Autumn Nethery. Joyce Nethery is the brand’s master distiller and CEO, while Autumn is the co-owner and marketing manager.

The latest release is distilled from a mashbill of 75% bloody butcher corn, 20% malted wheat and 5% malted barley, according to the brand. It was bottled at 93 proof and hosts a suggested retail price of $59.99. The wheated bourbon can be purchased starting May 2 and will be available in Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Florida, Georgia and Colorado.

“Since we are the only distillery we know of aging bourbon for an extended amount of time using Bloody Butcher Corn, we are always so excited to see what flavor notes our guests and fans pull from our spirits,” Autumn Nethery said in a statement.

Jeptha Creed brands itself as a grain-to-glass distillery, and the family claims it owns over 2,000 acres throughout Shelby County. The brand produces other grain spirits like vodka and moonshine in addition to its bourbons.
