On Tuesday, Green River Distilling Co. announced its latest whiskey release: Full Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

A barrel-proof version of the brand’s flagship bourbon distilled from a mashbill of 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley, Green River Full Proof is a blend of 5-to-7-year-old barrels aged in Green River’s Owensboro warehouses, which are unusual in that they were constructed with tiles rather than bricks or stone. According to Green River, the tile warehouses “maintain both warm and cool temperatures,” which the brand claims leads to “unique proof variation and liquid maturation.”

Green River Full Proof will vary in ABV by batch, with batch 1 clocking in at 117.3 proof.

“Full Proof bottlings are custom blends of barrels selected from our favorite parts of the rickhouses and hand selected for their quality,” Green River Distilling Co. VP of Product Development Dan Callaway said in a news release. “What I love about full proof expressions is that you are in control of the proof – taste at full-bodied strength and adjust to your preferences.”

With a suggested retail price of $49.99, the full-proof expression continues Green River’s trend of releasing great whiskey at remarkably reasonable prices.

Founded in 1885, Green River is the 10th-oldest distilling company in the U.S. A fire burned down the distillery in 1918, two years before Prohibition, which put Green River to an end until it was revived in 2020.

Since it resumed releasing whiskeys in 2022, Green River has debuted its flagship bourbon, wheated bourbon and rye whiskey expressions, which all have suggested retail prices of $34.99, while the brand’s single-barrel bourbon is priced at $59.99.

Green River will celebrate the release of Full Proof on Friday, with bottle sales beginning at its Owensboro distillery at 9 a.m. Green River Head Distiller Aaron Harris and National Brand Ambassador Caryn Wells will lead VIP tours at 3 and 5 p.m. On the tour, guests will view Green River’s Rickhouse B, enjoy a “bbarrel strength tasting comparison” and receive a bottle of Green River Full Proof to take home.

Then, from 4-6 p.m., the distillery will host a party with music, food and cocktails.

Green River says it anticipates nationwide distribution in “the coming years” and intends to expand its products to retail locations in Nevada, Arizona, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Washington, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Massachusetts this year.

Bardstown Bourbon Company acquired Green River in July 2022.
