On Monday, George Dickel announced the release of its oldest whiskey yet: Dickel Bourbon Aged 18 Years. The spirit was aged in George Dickel’s one-story rick houses in Tennessee and bottled at 90 proof.

“We created Dickel Bourbon to give people an approachable and balanced bourbon that is high-quality and complex in flavor,” Director of George Dickel and Luxury Whiskey Nicole Austin said in a news release from the brand. “I loved the idea of building upon that craftsmanship of our mature whiskey and creating something with that same traditional feel, and also more premium.”

The bourbon brand says its 18-year-old expression is available in highly limited quantities. According to the brand, it is distilled from a mashbill of 84% corn, 8% rye and 8% malted barley.

In December 2022, George Dickel released a 17-year-old bourbon — its oldest expression at the time. The inaugural release of the whiskey was in 2016, and it debuted in a 375-milliliter bottle. The 2022 release was in the full 750-milliliter size.

The 46%-ABV cask-strength bourbon received a 7/10 rating from Whiskey Raiders.

The brand’s 2023 18-year-old release was unveiled in early November, to much fanfare.  The husband-and-wife musical duo The War and Treaty performed while guests were able to taste the 18-year-old bourbon.

George Dickel’s team claims the bourbon has aromas of crémè brûlée and orchard fruit, with a mellow complexity.

“I’m excited for people to try Dickel Bourbon Aged 18 Years because its a rare and beautifully aged whiskey, but still exhibits a surprising brightness and a wide range of complexity that is not often found in American Whiskies of this age,” Austin concluded.
