On Tuesday, Garrison Brothers, Texas’ first legal bourbon distillery, announced a continuation of its partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation to work to conserve the state’s wildlife, lands and waters. The organizations will team up March 1 with an event at Garrison Brothers’ sprawling Hye distillery.

Starting at 8 a.m. that day, Garrison Brothers will release just 1,000 limited-edition bottles of Balmorhea Cask Strength, selected by Master Distiller Donnis Todd from 11 single barrels. They will sell for $230 each, with $50 of each sale going to Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.

“For the second year in a row, Garrison Brothers has chosen TPWF as a beneficiary of its Texas Independence Day celebration proceeds, and we greatly appreciate their generous support of our mission through the years,” TPWF Executive Director Anne Brown said in a news release. “It’s fitting that a whiskey named after Texas’ iconic oasis in the desert will help conserve the wild things and wild places of Texas.”

Balmorhea — named for Texas’ Balmorhea State Park Swimming Pool, the world’s largest spring-fed pool — is one of Garrison Brothers’ most heralded expressions. This double-oaked bourbon has achieved an impressive Raided Score® of 91 based on the reviews of trusted critics. Click here to check out those reviews.

The standard Balmorhea is bottled at 115 proof — already a high mark, but the barrel-proof version will be even stronger. The proof should vary barrel to barrel, but we’d guess most will probably hover around 130 proof.
