‘A Historic Time’: Evan Williams Celebrates 150th Kentucky Derby With Limited Edition Bourbon

On Friday, Evan Williams announced the 2024 release of its limited-edition bourbon that honors the Kentucky Derby. The silver wax-dipped bottle features a 52nd Edition Gold Pegasus Pin sealed to its neck and clocks in at 121 proof. The limited-release bourbon is available at specialized retailers for the suggested retail price of $84.99.
Kentucky Derby Festival President and CEO Matt Gibson and Evan Williams Bourbon Experience Artisanal Distiller Jodie Filiatreau unveiled the offering and personally hand-dipped two bottles.
“The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience is honored to host the annual bottle dipping of this limited Single Barrel release with the Kentucky Derby Festival,” Filiatreau said in a news release. “We’re grateful for the Festival’s partnership especially as the Derby city celebrates the 150th running of this iconic race and the amazing events leading up to it.”

This year’s offering is from 2016 and honors the 69th Kentucky Derby Festival, in addition to celebrating the 52nd anniversary of the Pegasus pin. The 2022 release included a 50th Edition Gold Pegasus pin. These pins are major sources of funding for the Kentucky Derby Festival.
The Kentucky Derby Festival dates back to 1956, and over 70 events lead up to the race. This year’s festival runs from March 28 – May 3. Other major whiskey brands are getting in on the celebrations, including Woodford Reserve. On Feb. 12, Woodford Reserve announced that it was celebrating the Kentucky Derby in style, through a partnership with two fashion designers, Sergio Hudson and Anifa Mvuemba. Both designers were tapped to design a capsule clothing line. The designers and their “muses” intend to wear pieces from their collections on Derby Day.
The latest derby-themed offering from Evan Williams comes at a particularly special time, marking the 150th Kentucky Derby race.
“Our partnership with Evan Williams celebrates two things Kentucky is known for – bourbon and the Derby festival season,” Kentucky Derby Festival President and CEO Matt Gibson said in a statement. “This year’s Pegasus Pin honoring the 150th Kentucky Derby paired with the special-edition bottle will be a unique collector’s piece to commemorate a historic time in our city.”
