Butler University is getting its own bourbon.

Butler Bulldog Batch #1 will hit shelves in the Indianapolis area in March, according to Circle City Whiskey Company, the non-distilling producer that’s bottling the bourbon.

According to information submitted to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, Circle City Whiskey Company Bulldog Batch Straight Bourbon Whiskey was distilled by MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, from a mashbill of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley.

After distillation, the bourbon was aged for five years in new American oak barrels before being bottled at 90 proof by Circle City in Noblesville, Indiana.

The Butler bourbon is available now for preorder, priced at $59.99.

According to Circle City, the spirit is “rich in honey, caramel and vanilla sweetness, with hints of cinnamon and brown sugar, making it as easy-to-drink as the Dawgs are easy-to-cheer on! B-U… T-L-E… R U a Bulldog?!”

Universities teaming up with whiskey producers to get their own, custom-branded bottlings seems to be a growing trend. Butler joins Furman University, Stephen F. Austin State University and Northern Illinois University, which each released a bourbon in 2023.

In November, the University of Missouri partnered with the Kansas City, Missouri distillery J. Rieger & Company, making the brand its official spirits sponsor. As part of the partnership, Rieger released a Mizzou-themed bourbon named Six Columns.
