On Wednesday, Sazerac announced that to celebrate the opening of the Buffalo Trace Distillery in the U.K., the brand is opening a pop-up phone booth experience inviting fans of the distillery to “answer the call” and partake in an unheard-of opportunity to taste incredibly rare whiskeys like Pappy Van Winkle 23 Year Old and Eagle Rare 25 Year Old for free.
The bourbon brand will set up an emerald green, Buffalo Trace-branded payphone in Covent Garden.

On May 4 and 5, the brand will make a series of calls to the phone booth, and if a passerby happens to pick up, they will be invited to the new distillery space to taste a killer lineup.
The expressions offered in the tasting are highly rare bourbons from Buffalo Trace, including O.F.C., George T Stagg, Weller 12 Year Old, Pappy Van Winkle 23 and Eagle Rare 25.
“At Buffalo Trace Distillery, we celebrate those who live life perfectly untamed — those who blaze their own trace, those willing to go their own way, those unafraid of the unknown,” said Global Brand Director Andrew Duncan at Buffalo Trace Distillery in a statement. “That’s why we’re challenging visitors in Covent Garden to do the unexpected this coming weekend — answer the call! Those who do just might find themselves embarking on one of the most memorable experiences of their lives.”
Buffalo Trace Distillery claimed it got this wildly wacky yet wonderful idea after discovering that a quarter of Brits “rarely do anything spontaneously.” The brand commissioned a study with 72Point that discovered that out of 2,000 Brits, 40% confirmed they would not answer a phone call from an unknown number and 26% use social media as their preferred form of communication.
To get Brits to let their hair down and get off the ‘Gram, Buffalo Trace decided to provide the opportunity to taste some of its rarest offerings.
The tastings are for two people and participants must be 18 years of age or older. The lucky individuals chosen for the tasting will have 30 minutes to meet at the distillery which is located in Covent Garden’s East Piazza near Russell Street.
The red telephone booth is iconic to the U.K., and in August 2022, a pop-up bar opened inside of one in Birmingham, England. The bar was dubbed “The World’s Smallest Cocktail Bar.” The micro telephone booth bar was a “teaser” experience for The Cocktail Club in Birmingham.
