2025’s Revered Brown-Forman King of Kentucky Bourbon Is Here, and We Tasted It

King of Kentucky 2025

King of Kentucky, Brown-Forman’s revered annual limited-release bourbon, is back. 2025’s release is a 17-year-old single-barrel expression bottled at barrel strength. This marks the eighth release since the brand was revived in 2018.

The 2025 edition comes from 63 barrels selected by Brown-Forman Master Distiller Emeritus Chris Morris. The barrels were chosen from the fourth floor of Warehouse J and the first floor of Warehouse G at the Brown-Forman Distillery. Proofs range from 124.4 to 135, with a total yield of about 5,000 bottles.

“This is the ultimate expression of American whiskey—a bold, robust bourbon that has been aged to perfection,” Morris said in a news release. “These 63 barrels, personally selected and tasted from the highest-quality warehouses, are a true masterpiece.”

The liquid originates from two production runs in 2007. Bottles are filled, wax-dipped, numbered and packaged in custom canisters. Each carries a suggested retail price of $399.

King of Kentucky dates back to 1881 and was acquired by Brown-Forman in 1936. The company discontinued the brand in 1968 before bringing it back in 2018 as a rare, single-barrel release. Volumes vary each year, depending on available mature stock.

The bourbon’s mashbill is 79% corn, 11% rye and 10% malted barley. In our review, we noted aromas of cherry cola and buttercream alongside almonds and spice. The palate brings rich vanilla, caramel and dark fruit, while the finish leans into baking spice with clove and tobacco. Read our full 2025 King of Kentucky review here.

Brown-Forman’s American whiskey portfolio includes Jack Daniel’s, Old Forester and Woodford Reserve.
