On Tuesday, Blood Oath announced the brand’s latest whiskey, Blood Oath Pact No. 10 Kentucky Straight Bourbon, a whiskey bottled at 98.6 proof. The whiskey was finished in Merlot and Cabernet Franc casks and marks the 10th Anniversary of Blood Oath.
According to the brand, Lux Row Master Blender and Master Distiller John Rempe has made it his mission for the past decade to find rare bourbons nearly lost to history and bottle them to create exclusive releases for the series.
For this year’s release, Rempe sourced two ryed bourbons and one finished bourbon. The blend was double-finished in Cabernet Franc and Merlot barrels. Blood Oath Pact 10 hosts a suggested retail price of $129.99, and 17,000 cases are available.
The brand claims that the Cabernet Franc finish lends the whiskey red fruit and black pepper qualities, while the Merlot provides softer aromas of cocoa, vanilla pods and anise.
“We wanted to create something truly distinctive and unique to mark our 10th edition of Blood Oath and we did just that,” Rempe said. “For this offering, I sourced three extraordinary bourbons that could be elevated even further through a double finish in Cabernet Franc and Merlot casks, and would ultimately deliver the kind of rich, fruit-forward notes and smooth drinking experience I wanted to achieve. It’s a superb blend and I’m excited to share it.”
Each Blood Oath Pact release features a bespoke label, as Lux Row releases a new Blood Oath Pact once a year. For the 2024 edition, the blended rye and bourbon release features a black and silver label.
An allocation of 51,000 bottles of Blood Oath Pact 10 will be available. Of that number, 1,400 will be held onto for a Trilogy release to roll out in the future. The Blood Oath Trilogy release will consist of Pacts 7, 8, and 9 and is set to be available later this year.
Blood Oath has been known to play around with distinctive finishes in past releases.
The brand unveiled a whiskey finished in Calvados casks for Blood Oath Pact No. 8, which received an impressive score of 8/10 at Bottle Raiders. Read the review here.
