On Oct. 8, Bardstown Bourbon Company announced its final Collaborative Series release of 2024. The final release is a bourbon that was finished in Oxheart Stout barrels from Kentucky craft brewery Blackberry Farm Brewery. The whiskey hosts a suggested retail price of $159.99.
The bourbon is a blend of 6- to 14-year-old bourbons that were finished in Blackberry Farm Brewery’s Oxheart Stout barrels for 17 months. Bardstown shared that this limited release is drawn from 10 barrels, and the 107-proof bourbon is available exclusively in Tennessee and Kentucky. It will also be sold at Bardstown Bourbon Company’s distillery in Bardstown and the Louisville tasting room.
Bardstown Bourbon Company shared that the road to the collaboration between the two brands was an organic meeting of the minds.
“Dan Callaway and I met years ago in Louisville, and quickly discovered we shared a passion for beverages and blending,” said Blackberry Farm’s Chief Fermentation Officer Roy Milner in a statement. “After a visit to the Brewery, we homed in on the idea of working with one of our favorite recipes, Oxheart Imperial Stout. Not only did I gain a dear friend, Dan’s approach to blending and flavor composition melded with the way we think about our bottlings. I’m proud of what we made together and honored to join the other legacy breweries who have come before us in this groundbreaking series.”
Bardstown Bourbon Co. shares this bourbon possesses aromas of honey and dark chocolate — highly likely due to the bourbon’s tenure in the stout barrels. The palate possesses marshmallow, vanilla and malt with a kick of mocha and cinnamon.
The previous iteration of Bardstown Bourbon Company’s Collaborative series was released in conjunction with Amrut, a whisky producer based out of India. Critics appeared to be partial to the whiskey, and its Raided Score™ can be viewed here.
