‘A Truly Legendary Pour’: Remus Gatsby Reserve Bourbon Raises a Glass to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Iconic Novel

Gatsby Reserve

Ross & Squibb’s Remus Bourbon brand announced the 2024 iteration of Remus Gatsby Reserve on Nov. 12. The bourbon raises a glass to the 1925 novel “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This year’s release clocks in at 104.9 proof and has a suggested retail price of $229.99 per 750-milliliter bottle.

The 2024 Gatsby Reserve is a blend of two bourbon mashbills bottled at cask strength. The first mashbill is made up of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley. The second features a ratio of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% barley malt. The brand claims this expression features a rich aroma of “antique leather” and “tobacco,” which leads to a sweetness of syrupy cherries with walnut and oak. The finish has flavors of fig, roasted almonds and more walnuts intermingled throughout.

Remus’ Gatsby Reserve debuted in 2022, making this the third year for the release. Each bottle features Art-Deco packaging as a stylistic nod to the era. Remus Gatsby Reserve 2023 had a significantly lower proof — 98.1.

Despite the low proof, the bourbon charmed critics with a more “old-school, MGP-style profile” and plenty of honey and tobacco on the palate. If you want to see what critics thought about that release, click here.

It seems the team at Ross & Squibb believes the 2024 edition of Remus Gatsby Reserve might be the best one yet.

“We’ve produced exceptional bourbon whiskey over the years at Ross & Squibb — and we worked to elevate our Gatsby Reserve even further to create a truly legendary pour that pays homage to the distilling craft and the spirit of the Roaring ’20s,” Ross & Squibb Distillery Master Distiller Ian Stirsman said in a statement. “This 2024 edition delivers on every point and is likely to become the most highly sought-after member of the Remus Bourbon family.”
