10 Best Whiskeys in the World Under $30, Ranked By Spirits Critics

Finding a good whiskey under $30 requires knowing where to look. The bottles below span bourbon, rye, Scotch and Canadian, and represent the strongest performers at this price point, as ranked by The Daily Pour’s Critics’ Score — a metric determined by aggregating scores from trusted reviewers across the internet

10. Cooper’s Craft Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Proof: 82.2 | Category: Bourbon

Produced by Brown-Forman and aged a minimum of four years, Cooper’s Craft is named in honor of the coopers who build Brown-Forman’s barrels — a nod to the company’s long tradition of making its own. Distilled from a mashbill of 75% corn, 15% rye and 10% malted barley, it goes through a beech and birch charcoal-filter finishing process that gives it a notably smooth profile. It won’t challenge seasoned bourbon drinkers looking for complexity, but as an accessible, well-made daily sipper it delivers well above its price.

9. J.P. Wiser’s 10 Year Triple Barrel

Proof: 80 | Category: Canadian

Produced at Hiram Walker & Sons Distillery in Ontario, J.P. Wiser’s 10 Year Triple Barrel is a blend of corn and rye distillate aged a decade across three cask types: new white oak, once-used American bourbon barrels and used Canadian whisky casks. The triple-barrel approach adds layers of vanilla and oak that most Canadian whiskies at this price don’t achieve, with a soft, balanced profile and a peppery finish with notes of orange pith.

8. John Barr Blended Scotch Whisky Reserve Blend

Proof: 80 | Category: Scotch

Produced by Whyte & Mackay in Scotland, John Barr Reserve Blend combines Highland malt and grain whiskies for a smooth, approachable profile. Wine Enthusiast finds it smooth and easy-sipping on the palate, leading with vanilla and caramel, with gentle peat smoke drifting into a baking spice finish. For under $30 it is a dependable, well-made blended Scotch with more character than most bottles at this price point.

7. Rittenhouse Straight Rye Whisky Bottled-in-Bond

Proof: 100 | Category: Rye

Distilled at Heaven Hill in Bardstown, Kentucky, Rittenhouse BIB has long been the benchmark for affordable rye whiskey. Made from a mashbill of 51% rye, 37% corn and 12% malted barley and bottled at 100 proof under the Bottled-in-Bond designation, it delivers a rye-forward profile with the structure and proof that most similarly priced competitors simply don’t offer. Drinkhacker calls it near-perfect in flavor profile, noting the right balance of bite and sweetness — and notes that many stores limit how many bottles a customer can buy, which tells you everything about how it’s regarded.

6. Quarter Horse Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Proof: 92 | Category: Bourbon

Distilled at Green River Distillery in Owensboro, Kentucky — one of the state’s oldest distilling sites, licensed in 1885 — Quarter Horse is a 92-proof Kentucky straight bourbon with a light, delicate character that sets it apart from the heavier, high-rye expressions that dominate this price range. Wine Enthusiast describes hints of almond, cedar, ginger and nutmeg. A good entry point for drinkers new to bourbon or those who prefer a gentler profile.

5. Islay Mist Blended Scotch Whisky

Proof: 80 | Category: Scotch

Originally created in 1927 at Laphroaig Distillery to celebrate the 21st birthday of Lord Margadale’s son, Islay Mist is produced by MacDuff International and built around a core of Laphroaig single malt, blended with undisclosed Speyside malts and grain whiskies. The Laphroaig base gives it the Islay smoke and brine that defines the style, softened by the Speyside and grain components into something approachable for drinkers who want peat without full commitment. Drinkhacker finds brine, brown banana, tobacco and nougat melding on the finish, and calls it a great bargain for a whisky that is at least Islay-adjacent. At around $24, it’s one of the better buys on this list.

4. Old Hamer Straight Bourbon

Proof: 80 | Category: Bourbon

Produced by MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and bottled by West Fork Whiskey Co. in Indianapolis, Old Hamer is made from an unusual mashbill of 99% corn and 1% malted barley — closer to a traditional corn whiskey than a standard bourbon — and aged a minimum of two years. The near-total corn content gives it a naturally sweet, soft profile without the rye spice found in most bourbons at this price. Whiskey Consensus describes it as a whiskey that hits all the notes it should without overreaching, and calls it a great value at $25. An honest, well-made budget bourbon.

3. Tumblin Dice Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Proof: 100 | Category: Bourbon

A Proof & Wood release distilled in Indiana and aged, blended and bottled in Kentucky, Tumblin Dice is built on a high-rye mashbill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% barley, aged at least four years and bottled at 100 proof. At around $28.99, the proof-to-price ratio is exceptional. Whisky Advocate finds cherry and red berry fruit stringing through the palate alongside bright citrus, chili-pepper honey and allspice and clove dancing on a long finish. A characterful, well-structured bourbon that punches well above its weight class.

2. Seven Sons Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Proof: 90 | Category: Bourbon

Produced at the Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana — the same facility behind numerous highly regarded MGP expressions — Seven Sons is a high-rye straight bourbon aged a minimum of four years. Wine Enthusiast finds that with a splash of water it opens into coconut cream pie, Nutella and mocha, winding into a gentle baking spice finish. A well-made, versatile bourbon from one of Indiana’s most respected distilling operations.

1. Tullibardine Artisan Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Proof: 80 | Category: Single Malt Scotch

Produced at Tullibardine Distillery in the Scottish Highlands and aged in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, the Artisan expression is a single malt Scotch that overdelivers significantly for its price. The nose is tart and fruit-forward: green apple, honey, fresh-baked bread, oats and plum. The palate is light but surprisingly rich — waxy fruits and honey lead into red apple, pear, ash, caramel and coffee. The finish is quick but pleasant, closing with cinnamon, dark chocolate-covered almonds and caramel. Light, sweet and easy-drinking, with deeper sweet notes on the back end that you wouldn’t expect from an 80-proof bottle at this price. The top Critics’ Score on this list.
