Woodford Reserve’s Latest Distillery Series Release Celebrates the Complexity of Malt Whiskey

Woodford Reserve

Woodford Reserve announced the release of the latest whiskey within the brand’s experimental Distillery Series, and it is a blend of two malt whiskeys.

Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall expressed her enthusiasm for the latest release in a statement.

“This showcases our ability to take complex barrels of whiskies, blend them together and create a new flavorful product,” McCall expressed.

Woodford Reserve’s Blended Malt hosts one whiskey with a mashbill of 100% malt aged in used barrels and finished in Ruby Port Barrels. The second whiskey is a blend of five different malt grains that matured in new oak barrels.

Blended Malt hosts a suggested retail price of $64.99 for a 375 ml bottle. Limited quantities are available at specific retailers in Kentucky and the whiskey can be purchased directly from Woodford. Woodford’s Blended Malt can be shipped to KY, NH, ND, NE and Washington D.C.

In May, Woodford Reserve announced the brand’s last Distillery Series release which was the result of a happy accident. The bourbon was “created by happenstance,” according to the brand, when toasted Woodford Reserve barrels used for the brand’s Double Oaked Bourbon were accidentally filled with new-make bourbon distillate.

New make is unaged spirit, and McCall claimed the result yielded a whiskey with a similar flavor profile to Woodford’s bourbon and Double Oaked. The one-of-a-kind bourbon matured at Woodford’s Warehouse C under the close monitoring of McCall.
