On Wednesday, WhistlePig Whiskey announced its latest creative whiskey drop: CampStock Wheat Whiskey, an exclusive expression released alongside the popular smokeless fire pit brand, Solo Stove.
To make this expression, WhistlePig blended Indiana wheat whiskey (85% of the blend) with WhistlePig rye (15%). The blend is finished in Solo Stove-toasted barrels, which the brands claim gives the barrel a “precise char and toast profile,” before being bottled at 86 proof.
“We’ve experimented with Wheat Whiskey as part of our FarmStock series and other limited editions,” WhistlePig Blender Meghan Ireland said in a news release. “CampStock takes the soft and smooth wheat profile to a new level with 85% Wheat whiskey, and an innovative Solo Stove Bonfire toasted barrel finish. No cooperage had ever used a Solo Stove on their barrel toasting platform, but Independent Stave Company was up for it, and the result was incredible.”
CampStock can be purchased as a solo item or as part of the limited-edition Campfire Kit, which also includes a WhistlePig-branded Solo Stove Mesa XL and Solo Stove Whiskey Barrel Firewood. The kit is priced at $199.99, while the whiskey alone has a suggested retail price of $74.99.
Four limited-edition CampStock bundles will be available available on Solo Stove’s website. The bundle includes everything the Campfire Kit does, plus two whiskey glasses and a flame-shaped ice mold.
“At Solo Stove, we’re passionate about fostering connections and crafting memorable experiences that ignite around the fire,” Solo Stove Chief Marketing Officer Luana Bumachar said in a news release. “This partnership embodies our commitment to bringing people together, infusing the embracing glow of a crackling fire with the bold taste of premium whiskey. It’s our invitation to spark conversations, share experiences, and forge enduring connections.”
Tasting WhistlePig CampStock Wheat Whiskey
This writer had a chance to taste WhistlePig CampStock Wheat Whiskey ahead of its release. Here’s what I thought:
On the nose, this whiskey is soft, sweet and enticing, with French toast, a big hit of buttered rolls, orange marmalade, lemon curd and butterscotch. Beneath the gentle surface, there lies a char-heavier side, with sort of a toasted marshmallow note — but the method of marshmallow toasting that the impatient use, where you set the whole thing on fire and then blow it out. It’s still sweet, but it’s definitely got that char on it.
On the palate, bright fruity notes pop up first, with orange and cherry leading the way. A confectionary profile follows, with powdered sugar, milk chocolate frosting, French bread and some pecan nuttiness. The toasted marshmallow note from the nose is back, only it’s more of a traditional toasted marshmallow note here — soft and gentle and fluffy. The rye makes its presence felt on the back palate, imparting notes of nutmeg, clove, just a tiny hint of mint and a pop of anise.
The finish is quick, with rye spice hanging around briefly, followed by wheat character — bread dough and sugar cookies with some caramel — and a hint of orange marmalade and cherry.

Overall, this is a great whiskey. It’s light, fairly complex for the proof and super easy to enjoy. Sometimes these limited WhistlePig releases hurt for lack of a higher proof, but that’s not the case here. WhistlePig SummerStock is artfully blended, and it’s clear that the toasted barrel finish served a purpose. Whiskey enthusiasts and novices alike can sit around a campfire (or a Solo Stove) this summer and enjoy this whiskey together — which is, perhaps, the point. CampStock manages to be both elaborate and accessible, which can be a tricky mark to hit. Nicely done, WhistlePig.
Camp WhistlePig
The Vermont-based whiskey brand also announced Camp WhistlePig, which will be in session at the WhistlePig Farm and Distillery throughout the month of June. Those hoping to enroll will get their by entering to win via a contest hosted by WhistlePig and Solo Stove.
The contest opened Wednesday and will run through June 3 on both brands’ social media channels.
WhistlePig describes the camp as: “Off the grid and under the stars in Shoreham, Vermont, Camp promises to include the full stave-to-stove experience, Solo Stove cookouts, WhistlePig S’mores Maple Old Fashioneds and Summer Camp classics.”
WhistlePig is no stranger to collaborating with brands beyond the whiskey world for special releases. Last June, the whiskey producer released its SummerStock whiskey alongside the sunglasses maker, Pit Viper. Of course, the whiskey was accompanied by a pair of ridiculous shades.
Then, In September, WhistlePig teamed up with the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake to release a single barrel rye whiskey finished in lychee and oolong tea barrels.
In April, WhistlePig tapped famous British comedian John Cleese to help debut its new 25-year-old single malt whiskey, The Badönkådonk. To read our review of it, click here.
