On Monday, TX Whiskey announced the pending release of the 10th expression in its Experimental Series: TX Experimental Series Light Whiskey.
Light whiskey is a fairly uncommon category of American whiskey that’s distilled to between 160 and 190 proof and aged in either used or uncharred new oak barrels.
Distilled from a mashbill of 99% corn and 1% malted barley, TX’s light whiskey is aged in used oak barrels and bottled at 110 proof.
“Light whiskey is unique in the American Whiskey arena due to its soft character,” TX Whiskey Head Distiller Evan Brewer said in a news release. “You typically think of a big, bold, smoke and oak seen in new-char aged whiskies like bourbon or rye. Our light whiskey showcases more of the bright and floral flavors that develops in fermentation and distillation. The oak and smoke are still present, but subdued from using an ex bourbon barrel to age.”
The whiskey will debut Saturday at TX’s Whiskey Ranch location in Fort Worth, Texas. The event will have a VIP entry beginning at noon, where VIP attendees will be treated to a tasting, bottle signing, VIP tour, exclusive gift and early access to purchase the whiskey.
General admission will begin at 1 p.m. Attendees will be able to enjoy cocktails made with the new expression. Also at the event will be live music, food trucks and complimentary bottle engravings.
VIP tickets are priced at $50, while general admission tickets will go for $10. The tickets will grant each ticket holder entry to the event and one cocktail.
Tickets can be purchased on TX Whiskey’s website.
TX Whiskey will make 1,500 bottles of the light whiskey available for purchase at Whiskey Ranch. The release will be available in 375-milliliter bottles priced at $39.99 each. Each customer will be limited to purchasing eight bottles in a 30-day period.
TX Whiskey released the ninth whiskey in its Experimental Series in June: Unaged White Dog.
