On Wednesday, The Perfect Fifth announced the release of the latest bottling in its Canongate collection. Canongate 14-Year-Old American Whiskey was distilled in 2009 in Bardstown, Kentucky. From there, it spent three years in aging in Kentucky before being shipped to Scotland, where it rested for an additional 11 years.

According to The Perfect Fifth, this was done to allow the whiskey to experience Kentucky’s turbulent weather and Scotland’s mellow climate. The Perfect Fifth says this resulted in a whiskey with “a complexity of mixed honey tones, multiple layers of vanilla, and hints of cocoa and light spice.”

Canongate 14-Year-Old American Whiskey is bottled at 128.8 proof. It has a suggested retail price of $175 per 750-milliliter bottle. Only 232 bottles are available in the U.S. They can be found at retailers in New York, New Jersey and California. According to the brand, it will also be available online.

Founded in 2019 by Karl Schoen, The Perfect Fifth is an American independent whiskey bottler known for its rare scotch whisky releases. With its recent Canongate Collection releases, the bottler has moved into bottling American whiskey, as well.

“Distillers in the United States, in particular, Kentucky, have always had a harmonious relationship with Scotland, largely due to sending used bourbon barrels to Scotland for a second life, to mature spirits distilled in Scotland.,” Schoen said in a news release. “Our Canongate expression, which is our ‘born and bottled’ line, is an ode to that symbiotic relationship.”

This is The Perfect Fifth’s third Canongate release. The first was a 24-year-old scotch whisky distilled by Glentauchers, which debuted in 2018. That was followed by an 11-year-old American whiskey released in 2020.

“This series celebrates the long history of cask sharing between the two countries by selecting single cask whiskies distilled in the U.S., and aging and bottling them in Scotland,” Schoen said. “Our latest release, the Canongate 14-Year-Old American Whiskey is not only well-traveled, but is a unique combination of the environments of Kentucky and Scotland.”
