Michter’s Distillery on Tuesday announced that it will release this year’s editions of its Shenk’s Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey and Bomberger’s Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon next month.
The two annual expressions are part of the Michter’s Legacy Series, a line that now includes a third whiskey introduced this year, Bomberger’s PFG™ (Precision Fine Grain) — one of our favorite releases of 2025.
Shenk’s Homestead 2025 edition is bottled at 91.2 proof and carries a suggested retail price of $110. Bomberger’s Declaration, a higher-proof release at 108, is priced at $120.
“Our Michter’s production team puts a great deal of thought and a lot of effort into making our Legacy Series releases special,” Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco said in a news release.
The Legacy Series pays tribute to the brand’s roots, which trace back to 1753 when Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk founded a distillery in Pennsylvania. The operation was later renamed Bomberger’s in the 1800s before becoming Michter’s in the 20th century. The operation eventually became defunct before being reopened in Kentucky by Magliocco in 1997.
Each release reflects a focus on wood selection and aging. A portion of this year’s Shenk’s was finished in toasted French oak barrels made from wood harvested in France’s Vosges forest.
For Bomberger’s, Michter’s again turned to Chinquapin oak barrels, a signature element of the whiskey’s flavor profile. The barrels were seasoned outdoors for different durations — ranging from 18 months to five years — to influence the oak’s contribution during maturation.
“Once again Chinquapin barrels have contributed to the hallmark flavor of Bomberger’s Declaration,” said Andrea Wilson, Michter’s master of maturation. “The result is a bold and multi-dimensional experience to savor and enjoy.”
In 2024, Michter’s became the first brand to be named The World’s Most Admired Whiskey two years in a row by an international panel assembled by Drinks International.
