Heaven Hill announced on Wednesday the release of a new line of whiskeys — Heaven Hill Grain to Glass. The line debuts with a bourbon, a wheated bourbon and a rye.
“Over the course of the nearly 90 years, since founding Heaven Hill by my Dad and his brothers, we have always been cognizant of viewing our business from the long term, developing products that fit into this broad vision,” Heaven Hill Executive Chairman Max Shapira said in a news release. “Heaven Hill Grain to Glass incorporates everything our long history and heritage brings to our producing what we believe is the most unique, transparent offering that we have brought to market in our entire history. And that is saying a lot.”
According to Heaven Hill, this idea was over eight years in the making and spearheaded by Shapira. Shapira partnered with Beck’s Hybrids, a seed company with a history dating back to 1937.
Heaven Hill says its master distiller works with Beck’s Hybrids each year to choose a distinctive corn seed to create the right profile for Heaven Hill Grain to Glass. The chosen seed is then grown at Peterson Farms in Nelson County, Kentucky.
“Working with Beck’s and Peterson Farms to create Grain to Glass has been an incredible experience,” Heaven Hill Master Distiller Conor O’Driscoll expressed. “We’re proud to have crafted an innovative product — taking it from seed to aged liquid — while still remaining true to the values and legacy of Heaven Hill Distillery.”
Heaven Hill’s Grain to Glass series implements a different mashbill from the brand’s traditional bourbon and wheated bourbon mashbills.
In February, Heaven Hill unveiled its 2024 Heritage Collection release, an 18-year-old bourbon. Click here to read our review of the rare bourbon.
An Inside Look at Heaven Hill’s Grain to Glass Series
Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Bourbon
Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Bourbon is distilled from a mashbill of 52% corn, 35% rye and 13% malted barley and bottled at 107 proof proof. On the nose, the brand claims orchard fruit aromas dominate — like apples and pears — coupled with fresh oak. The palate features more orchard fruit with floral qualities, interlaced with spice. The bourbon concludes with an oaky sweetness coupled with pepper.
Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Wheated Bourbon
Heaven Hill’s 121-proof Grain to Glass Wheated Bourbon possesses a mashbill of 52% corn, 35% wheat and 13% malted barley. On the nose, Heaven Hill cites aromas of walnuts and almonds coupled with wheat bread, oak and cedar. The palate, the brand says, features flavors of molasses, and toasted whole wheat bread, with a peppery kick. The bourbon finishes with pepper that fades into oak tannins and molasses.
Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Rye Whiskey
The rye whiskey from the collection is bottled at a hefty proof of 123.2 and is the sole barrel-proof whiskey within the series. It hosts a higher rye content than the brand’s core rye whiskey, with a mashbill of 63% rye, 24% corn and 13% malted barley. Heaven Hill claims the rye whiskey possesses toasted oak aromas with dried grasses and flowers; a palate with plenty of cigar tobacco, big caramel and butterscotch; and a finish with campfire smoke, charred oak and cinnamon.
