Hard Truth and Mellencamp Whiskey Co. Just Dropped a Blend of Bourbon and Rye Whiskeys That Supports American Farmers

An Indiana distillery is once again teaming up with the son of the iconic American singer-songwriter John Mellencamp to release a whiskey.
On Monday, Hard Truth Distilling Co. announced the release of Farmer’s Reserve, its second in a series of four whiskeys released in collaboration with Mellencamp Whiskey Company.
Mellencamp Whiskey Company was co-founded by Hud Mellencamp, the son of iconic musical artist John Mellencamp.
Each bottle’s in the series features a label sporting original artwork by John Mellencamp. Farmer’s Reserve depicts a 1991 oil-on-canvas painting called “American Boy And Girl.” According to Hard Truth, the two figures in the painting are a nod to the whiskey, which is a blend of two starkly different whiskeys: Hard Truth’s Chocolate Malt Rye and Sweet Mash Bourbon.
“Farmer’s Reserve builds beautifully on our mission to produce great whiskeys in collaboration with Hard Truth and the local farmers that will produce the highest quality regional flavor profiles,” Hud Mellencamp said in a news release
The blend of bourbon and rye were finished in toasted Amburana — a Brazilian wood that has gained popularity in the whiskey world in the past couple of years — and bottled at 106 proof.
Farmer’s Reserve will be available at the Hard Truth distillery beginning April 6 and will release to “the greater market” over the following weeks, according to Hard Truth. It has a suggested retail price of $69.99.

“The success of Harvest Rye has us energized for our second release and the amazing whiskey that’s coming next,” Mellencamp Whiskey Company co-founder Levi Collison said in a news release. “Farmer’s Reserve is an exceptional new whiskey, and fans of the first release will love this one.”
The series of releases from Hard Truth and Mellencamp celebrate and support American farmers by using locally sourced ingredients. Additionally, Hard Truth established the Grounded in Truth initiative, which supports local farmers in collaboration with Farm Aid — a nonprofit founded by John Mellencamp.
