On Tuesday, Coors Spirits Co. announced the release of Blue Run Flight Series III, a limited-edition lineup of six micro-batch whiskeys blending Kentucky straight bourbon and rye whiskeys. Each expression is blended from no more than four barrels.

This is the first time the Blue Run Flight Series has combined both bourbon and rye whiskeys. Previous releases focused on single styles or outdoor influences. All six expressions in Series III were crafted by Wild Turkey alum Shaylyn Gammon, Coors Spirits Co.’s head of whiskey development and innovation.

“The unique challenge of blending two American Whiskey styles across three mashbills can only be recognized as a journey of discovery,” Gammon said in a news release. “Marrying decadent vanilla and honey with spice and savory components naturally results in harmonics that stand out in the nose and on the palate. But the melody created with more subtle and balanced flavors is where the true artistry of these whiskeys is revealed. Consistent with the past Flight Series releases, Series III is an expressive collection of whiskey innovation.”

Each bottle in the collection reflects a theme tied to American culture or geography. For instance, “Beach & Blooms” draws inspiration from coastal and floral landscapes, while “Fit & Flair” nods to the style and grit of urban settings. The whiskeys were sourced from distilleries including Castle & Key, Bardstown Bourbon Company and a third undisclosed facility. All were aged in non-temperature-controlled warehouses using #2 and #4 alligator char barrels.
