On Tuesday, Chicken Cock released a limited-edition whiskey in conjunction with the New Orleans Bourbon Festival. The expression has a suggested retail price of $149.99 and will be available at the festival — which will take place March 20-24 — and from specialized retailers in the area.

“To commemorate the relationship between our brand and the city of New Orleans that stems back nearly 200 years, we wanted to not only have a great presence at this fantastic event but also release a rare and unique offering to its attendees,” Chicken Cock Whiskey Brand Ambassador Will Woodington said in a news release. “Gregg Snyder, Chicken Cock Whiskey’s Master Distiller, and I, along with the event organizers, hand-picked this barrel of our Double Oak 9-Year Kentucky Whiskey in-person in Bardstown, and it’s one of the finest expressions of Chicken Cock Whiskey that I’ve ever tasted!”

The whiskey is bottled at 119.6 proof and was aged for nine years. The first seven years years were spent resting in used barrels, and for the final two years the whiskey was finished in new American white oak barrels with a level four char, according to the brand. The bottle was designed in a collaboration between Chicken Cock Whiskey and the New Orleans Bourbon Festival, and the festive packaging pays homage to Prohibition.

According to Woodington, Chicken Cock Whiskey has had a relationship with the Big Easy since the late 1830s. Chicken Cock founder James A. Miller apparently shipped barrels of his whiskey to New Orleans before he opened his distillery.

In January, Chicken Cock released another whiskey in celebration of the South, this time alongside the magazine “Garden and Gun.” That whiskey was aged in used bourbon barrels rather than new oak for seven years due to a shortage of American White Oak shortage that took place in 2014, according to the brand.
