Buzzard’s Roost Introduces Its Most Affordable Whiskey Yet

On Wednesday, Buzzard’s Roost unveiled an American whiskey. The whiskey has a suggested retail price of $39.99, making it by far the most affordable Buzzard’s Roost expression to date. The whiskey was made available for purchase at Buzzard’s Roost Whiskey Row Experience starting Wednesday.
“We had great fun creating our first American Whiskey,” Buzzard’s Roost Master Blender Jason Brauner said in a statement from the brand. “We had our pick of our own whiskey-soaked barrels and the flavor profiles that each was designed for. We think we’ve come up with something that’s delicious as a sipper and will elevate any whiskey cocktail.”
Buzzard’s Roost American Whiskey is distilled from a mashbill of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley. It is sourced whiskey from MGP in Indiana aged for a minimum of 36 months and finished in Char #1 barrels with Buzzard’s Roost’s proprietary toast profiles.
To create the whiskey, Buzzard’s Roost aged a three-year-old sourced whiskey with Char #1-toasted barrels from its library of used barrels for a secondary aging process.
“I love that we can get a second use out of our proprietary barrels,” CEO Judy Hollis Jones said. “It’s a big plus from both environmental and economic standpoints. After a single use for secondary aging our other Buzzard’s Roost whiskies, these barrels still have plenty of flavor in them.”
Buzzard’s Roost American Whiskey is classified as an American whiskey rather than a bourbon due to its secondary maturation in used bourbon barrels.
The brand describes Buzzard’s Roost American Whiskey as “approachable” and “versatile” with aromas of “roasted almonds, cola, cinnamon and a hint of orange zest.” As far as the whiskey’s flavor profile, Buzzard’s Roost cites flavors of vanilla wafers, roasted almonds, cinnamon candies and orange soda.
In February, Buzzard’s Roost shared its plans with the world to open a micro-distillery and tasting room experience down in Louisville’s Whiskey Row.
