Bulleit Frontier Whiskey announced on Wednesday that it is entering the red-hot American Single Malt category with its latest release. The whiskey is distilled from a mashbill of 100% malted barley and is a permanent addition to Bulleit’s core portfolio.

“Bulleit American Single Malt brings Bulleit’s restless innovation and passion for sustainability into this exciting new category that is set to make waves in the whiskey industry for years to come,” Diageo Senior Vice President of Whiskies & Liqueurs Jesse Damashek said in a news release.

The whiskey clocks in at 90 proof and has a suggested retail price of $59.99 per 750-milliliter bottle. Bulleit American Single Malt is available across the U.S. and for in-person purchase at the Bulleit visitor experience in Shelbyville, Kentucky.

Bulleit Frontier Whiskey describes its American Single Malt as having a nose of vanilla and toasted oak, coupled with a fruit-driven palate and a smooth, oaky finish of caramel and cocoa.

Bulleit says it’s bottling the single malt in a green glass bottle made from recycled glass to emphasize Bulleit’s commitment to sustainability.

“With a 100% malted barley mashbill and a striking green bottle created from post-consumer recycled glass, this exceptional whiskey covers a lot of new ground for the brand,” Damashek said. “I believe we’ve succeeded in crafting a distinctive American Single Malt that whiskey lovers across the country will savor and enjoy.”

While the American single malt category has not yet received an official designation from the TTB, its proposed definition is a whiskey made from a mashbill of 100% malted barley; distilled entirely at one distillery; mashed, distilled and matured in the U.S.; aged in oak casks with a capacity no larger than 700 liters; distilled to no more than 160 proof; and bottled at 80 proof or higher.

Many brands have entered this red-hot category, including Jack Daniel’s, High West, Balcones and Beam.
