On Thursday, Louisville, Kentucky-based distillery Angel’s Envy announced the release of two cask-strength whiskeys. Beginning Dec. 1, 5,500 bottles of Angel’s Envy 2023 Cask Strength Rye Finished in Sauternes and Toasted Oak Barrels — the brand’s first ever cask-strength rye — will debut, as will 22,656 bottles of Angel’s Envy 2023 Cask Strength Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels.

The cask-strength rye will be available for purchase at select retailers in Kentucky, New York, Florida, California, Texas, Illinois, Ohio and Tennessee, while the bourbon will be available nationwide. Both will also be able to be found at the Angel’s Envy distillery in downtown Louisvill starting at 9 a.m. Dec. 1.

These are the first releases under Owen Martin, who joined the brand last September, becoming the first Angel’s Envy master distiller since 2013.

“We are always looking to push the boundaries of innovation at ANGEL’S ENVY,” Martin said in a news release. “It was thrilling to kick off my journey with the best-in-class team at the distillery on the 12th Annual Cask Strength Bourbon and the first-ever limited-edition Cask Strength Rye Whiskey. With my deep background in maturing, blending, and finishing whiskey, I’ve been able to share a unique perspective on the ANGEL’S ENVY’S award-winning Cask Strength program, and am looking forward to this next chapter with the brand.”

Angel’s Envy 2023 Cask Strength Rye Finished in Sauternes and Toasted Oak Barrels is bottled at 114.4 proof and has a suggested retail price of $269.99, while Angel’s Envy 2023 Cask Strength Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels hosts a proof of 118.2 and a suggested retail price of $229.99.

Under the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength program, the team selects barrels to finish in port wine barrels from Portugal each year.
