On Wednesday, five days after American single malt was officially ratified as an American whiskey category, Town Branch Distillery announced the release of what it’s calling the oldest Bottled-in-Bond American single malt whiskey ever.

Town Branch 15-Year Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Single Malt Whiskey Archive Series Vol. 1 has a suggested retail price of $399.99 per 750-milliliter bottle. It will be available at Town Branch Distillery and in select states across the U.S.

Town Branch is the primary distilling operation of Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., the only brewery and distillery on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

This is the first release in Town Branch’s Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Single Malt Whiskey Archive Series, which will be composed of “some of the oldest American Single Malt Whiskey in the world,” all distilled, aged and bottled by Town Branch in Lexington.

Town Branch founder Dr. Pearse Lyons laid down a number of single malt barrels in 2009 and will continue to release them in single-barrel format once a year through 2030, at which point the whiskey will be 21 years old.

The whiskey is aged in ex-bourbon barrels.

Each release includes a collector’s coin minted to commemorate the Archive Series. These coins are more than just keepsakes; anybody with a coin is entitled to unlimited free tours for life at Town Branch, with no reservations required. The coin will also guarantee the coin holder “exclusive benefits reserved for our extended family,” according to the brand.

“When you select our special single malt whiskey release, you became part of our family’s traditions and legacy. It’s personal – and a privilege to share it with you,” owner Mark Lyons said.

Only 108 bottles of Town Branch 15-Year Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Single Malt Whiskey Archive Series Vol. 1 are estimated to be available, making this an extremely limited release.
