Cedar Ridge Debuts Single Malt Whiskey That Honors the ‘Rich Experience’ of Cigars

Cedar Ridge Distillery announced on Wednesday that the Iowa distillery unveiled the third single malt within its limited series of whiskey releases. The QuintEssential: The Untitled Cigar Malt Project is a whiskey that pays homage to the experience of smoking cigars.
The 57.45%-ABV American single malt whiskey hosts a suggested retail price of $99.99 and can be pre-ordered directly from the brand.
“The vision for this release was a whiskey evoking the rich experience of a cigar,” Cedar Ridge Master Blender Murphy Quint said in a news release. “It features bold notes of tobacco, a subtle hint of smoke, a balanced character and a lengthy finish.”
The brand shared the release is a blend of single malts initially aged in Cedar Ridge ex-bourbon barrels. The individual malts were finished in a cornucopia of different casks: first-fill amontillado sherry, the brand’s proprietary Madeira-inspired wine and new French and American oak with char #3 toast. A peated malt finished in a ruby port barrel was also included in the blend.
Quint claimed a particularly central element to the blend is the peated malt, and that it “delivers an important feature.”
“Its smoky influence, though subtle due to being blended with non-peated single malts, lingers long on the finish, a transition that emerges after the initial notes of sherry and Madeira have faded. This was a key element to the project, achieving a finish that lingers pleasantly, much like the subtle hint of smoke you might experience long after savoring a cigar. This is a whiskey I’ve envisioned for a long time, and I thoroughly enjoyed putting it together,” Quint gushed about the release.
About Cedar Ridge Distillery
The Quint family have been farmers and distillers for generations. Jeff Quint founded Cedar Ridge Distillery in 2005 because of Iowa’s reputation as the No. 1 corn-growing state. He felt it was high time for Iowa to show the rest of America it could make bourbon.
The distillery is the first licensed distillery in the state since Prohibition. The brand released its first proprietary whiskey in 2010.
The grain-to-glass distillery mills its corn and grain on-site, according to the brand, and it ages its whiskeys in a non-temperature-controlled warehouse.
In January, Jeff Quint passed the distilling torch to his son, Murphy Quint. The QuintEssential: The Untitled Cigar Malt Project was completed under the younger Quint’s stewardship.
