The Beverly and Cedar Ridge Join Forces for a Special ‘QuintEssential’ American Single Malt Whiskey

On Tuesday, Beverly Spirits doubled down on its long-standing relationship with Cedar Ridge Distillery to uncork a single malt dubbed “The QuintEssential Edition,” based on Cedar Ridge’s popular QuintEssential single malt. This release is quintessentially rare, we might add, as the release has been limited to just 675 bottles.
The whiskey is aged a minimum of six years before finishing in first-fill amontillado sherry and French oak casks. Amontillado, drier and lighter than the more commonly used Pedro Ximenez or Oloroso sherry, is said to imbue flavors of caramel, toffee and candied cherry alongside a dark chocolate-laden finish.
The expression is bottled at a natural cask strength of 58.45% ABV and is now available at a suggested retail price of $119.99 at retailers across California and Tennessee.
“We’re thrilled to release The Beverly: The QuintEssential Edition,” The Beverly founder Andrew Borenzweig remarked. “This release represents the pinnacle of our collaboration with Cedar Ridge and embodies our shared commitment to crafting exceptional, one-of-a-kind whiskeys. Murphy’s mastery shines through in this expression, making it a standout in the emerging American Single Malt category.”
Beverly Spirits is the brainchild of Andrew Borenzweig, who conceived the brand in 2022 as a tribute to the “effortless luxury” of Los Angeles. All of the brand’s expressions are overseen by Cedar Ridge, an Iowa best-seller helmed by master distiller Murphy Quint (hence, “QuintEssential.”)
Cedar Ridge has debuted a handful of its own QuintEssential bottlings in the past to great effect. This year’s release from the distiller, subtitled The Untitled Cigar Malt Project, was an excellent celebration of malted barley brimming with flavors of red berries, stewed fruits, tobacco and minerality. That, too, was finished in first-fill Amontillado Sherry casks, a hopeful sign for Beverly Spirits’ twist on the concept.
