10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirits Co. announced on Wednesday that the Colorado brand is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of special releases in collaboration with Rob Dietrich, the master distiller of BLACKENED Whiskey, the brand from the heavy metal band, Metallica. 10th Mountain shared that proceeds from the releases will go to veterans suffering from PTSD.
10th Mountain will launch a limited-release bourbon, rye and single malt whiskey.
Those in the Colorado area can come to 10th Mountain’s tasting room Sept. 5 in Vail for a special tasting of the limited-release whiskeys. The festivities will peak Sept. 7, with live music, food trucks and more entertainment available to whiskey enthusiasts looking to join in on the celebration.
10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Company is a brand that honors members of the 10th Mountain Division, who fought in World War II. The company had a home base at Camp Hale, approximately 22 miles west of Vail, Colorado. In January 1945 they were deployed to Italy, and the troops fought the German army for two and a half months, ultimately emerging victorious. The Colorado brand possesses a diverse portfolio of bourbon, rye, brandy, potato vodka, cordial, moonshine and American single malt whiskey.
Metallica’s BLACKENED brought back its popular expression Rye The Lightning in April.
During the year it launched, Rye The Lightening was named one of the Top 20 Whiskies of the Year from Whisky Advocate. The 2024 release was finished in Madeira wine and Caribbean rum casks for between two and 14 weeks each.
