A Saucy Surprise: Woman Gets a Shot of Vodka Delivered Through Uber Eats After Ordering Popular Italian Pasta Dish From NYC Restaurant

The Daily Dot reported on Wednesday that a woman shared a viral TikTok video of her experience ordering takeout from an NYC restaurant. She simply requested Penne a la Vodka with some extra vodka sauce on the side.
When Uber Eats delivered her meal, she received an actual vodka shot instead of the sauce she requested.
In a video for the TikTok account @keepingupwiththeblasters, she explained what appeared to be an amusing misunderstanding.
“I wrote a little note saying can you please include some extra vodka sauce on the side, I did not recieve vodka sauce on the side, but I did recieve: vodka.”
The video currently has 11.3k likes, and users expressed their approval in the comments section.
“A win is a win,” one user commented.
Another claimed that they were going to ask for a side of vodka the next time they ordered a meal for delivery. Typically Uber Eats requires an ID check if an individual orders alcohol, yet given the circumstances, this boozy surprise slipped under the radar.
The New York Times reported in August that Penne a la Vodka’s popularity is a fairly recent culinary phenomenon, as the dish gained traction in the ’70s and ’80s.
Though its origins are murky, it still remains well-liked due to that rosy sauce, with a heightened amount of acidity from the addition of vodka. The outlet reported that the Journal of Food Science claims ethanol in the alcohol creates a glossy and creamy sauce.
The New York Times shared with its readers that even if the vodka has been cooked, a little bit of alcohol remains in the sauce for about as long as an hour.
