Whilst Yoichi Single Malt is quite a straight-forward whisky, it’s a well-made one that demonstrates good balance and is evocatively coastal. It’s arguably better than the 50cl NAS that is has in effect replaced, but at the same time, not quite in the same league as the discontinued age-statement Yoichi range.

House Review
Nose:
Waxy fruits on the nose, light pepper, a touch of sulfur, a tiny hint of smoke. Apples, pears, light cream and frosting, a touch of vanilla bean sweetness.
Taste:
Light and sweet on the palate, a bit of ethanol but not punishing. Caramel, honey, vanilla bean, light melon. Easy drinking, a blend of fresh fruit, honey and just a tinge of smoke.
Finish:
Moderate finish, the best of the pour so far, blending clover honey, caramel, fresh bread and apple pie notes. Ethanol still sticks out a bit more than it should, but it’s less out of place here.
Overall:
Overall, this drinks pretty pleasantly. Not exceptional, but preferable to Taketsuru and Nikka’s Coffey Grain.
