  • Lovely stuff. This is a Yama for the ages and a bold stroke in my portfolio of Japanese Whiskey reviews. So far it has no equal.

  • Nose:

Molasses and honey intertwine as baking spice, anise, black tea, sandalwood and a hint of pepper pop in. This is luscious and rich, and I love the combination of sweet and spice.

  • Taste:

Moderate mouthfeel in terms of viscosity. Nice texture; not heavily syrupy but pleasant. Black tea and molasses pop immediately on the palate, followed by honey, clove, anise, some sandalwood and a hint of cola and root beer. Weird, I know, but it’s there, and it rocks.

  • Finish:

Long finish that's extremely well balanced. This tackles all of my previous Yamazaki complaints, which center around a meek, thin spirit. This is none of those things, and this release bowls me over with complexity and a realization that Yamazaki can be incredible... when Suntory wants it to be.

  • Overall:

Lovely stuff. This is a Yama for the ages and a bold stroke in my portfolio of Japanese Whiskey reviews. So far it has no equal.
