Writers’ Tears Tequila Cask Finish, produced by Amber Beverage Group, is the first single pot still Irish whiskey finished in tequila casks. It is initially aged in bourbon barrels at Walsh Whiskey in County Carlow, Ireland, then finished for nine months in Añejo tequila barrels at Amber Production Tequila in Mexico. Bottled at 47% ABV without chill filtration, this limited edition retails for about $80.

  • A layer of butterscotch pudding and oatmeal crumble add more confectionary depth while cracked pepper and more gingery spice offer a counterpoint to the sweetness. The finish is fruity and gently drying with orange slices and, at last, a lingering note of ripe peach.
