Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is produced by Brown-Forman in Shively, Kentucky, using a mashbill of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley.
Lingering notes of vanilla and caramel are nice to reflect on while citrus and a bit of cherry fruit are like the proverbial cherry-on-top at the end of a nice dessert.
For fun, I compared this whiskey to Old Forester Signature (100 proof, slightly hotter), as many complain that two bourbons are really made from the same stock. That’s clearly not the case, as the OldFo presents with a much stronger chocolate note, and more wood on the palate, making for a somewhat more frontier-style experience, in contrast to your more refined time with Woodford.
I’ve long had a soft spot for Woodford Reserve as an outstanding middle-of-the-road bourbon, ideal for the afficianado to sip on or to use to introduce friends to the wonderful world of bourbon whiskey.
