Wolfburn 10 Year Old marks the first permanent age-statement release from Wolfburn Distillery in Thurso, Caithness, the northernmost mainland distillery in Scotland. Founded in 2013 near the site of a 19th-century distillery of the same name, Wolfburn matured this whisky for 10 years entirely in hand-selected second-fill Oloroso sherry casks. Bottling takes place at 46% ABV without chill filtration or artificial coloring, with pricing typically ranging from $60 to $110.
Clearly, a great deal of time and money has been invested into the marketing department for this release. I, for one, appreciate this attention to detail in the presentation of what may otherwise be an easy single malt to overlook. I will be very interested to see future releases from this distillery in the far north.
